LAST WORDS

LAST WORDS

LAST WORDS reminds us of our mortality. We live, we die and the world continues. However, some people have left behind “last words”. These words might help us live better lives or may even offer us assistance to make the transition to the “other side”. These supposed last words by the famous and infamous are the inspiration for machine embroideries and animation. Our ability to die, defines, in part, our humanity. Artificial intelligence or other digital entities have the potential to live forever. These immortal objects/ beings are reliant on technology, so too is the artwork for LAST WORDS. As the embroideries connects the past to the present the animation projects us forward to our inescapable future, or mortality.
The LAST WORDS exhibition at Gallery 139 in Newcastle, Australia, included the embroideries and an animation of text that uses the embroideries designs and found moving images from the Internet.
